MEET MIKE

EXPERIENCED LEADERSHIP BRINGING RESULTS FOR SPRINGFIELD

MIKE has lived in Springfield's Zone 3 for nearly 34 years, and once served on the West Central Neighborhood board of directors.

Newsman

     A graduate of Iowa State University, Mike was a newspaper reporter for 15 years, including 7 at Springfield Newspaper, and worked for more than two years as assignment editor at KY3 News.

 

State Representative

     In 1992 Mike won election to the Missouri House of Representatives in Springfield's 136th district, serving a total of eight years after winning election three more times.  His legislative accomplishments included budget work that speeded up the start for a new edition to the Missouri State University library; more money for domestic violence shelters in the state; and increased funding for health and mental health services.

 

Educator

     Since leaving the Legislature, Mike has taught journalism and political science as an adjunct instructor at Missouri State University, Drury University and Ozarks Technical Community College.  He is currently teaching American government and politics at OTC.

 

Organizations

     Mike has served as a board member of Ozark Greenways, and is currently a board member of Excel School Community Partnership.  He is also a member of the Sierra Club, The Nature Conservancy and the Ozarks Literacy Council.  He is a founding member of the Springfield chapter of Society of Professional Journalists.  Mike was also a youth baseball coach for the city of Springfield recreation program.
